On 21 and 22 October, GREENFLEET\u2019s EV Rally Cymru \u201826 took electric vehicles and charging infrastructure on a two-day journey across the country in partnership with Transport for Wales. As Official Technology Partner, Quartix tracked every vehicle along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was the third running of the Welsh Rally, which launched in 2024. This year it also came to us, with Quartix HQ in Newtown as an official Day 1 checkpoint. Here\u2019s how the two days played out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-route-from-cardiff-to-the-north-wales-coast\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The route: from Cardiff to the North Wales coast<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Day 1 \u2013 Cardiff to Aberystwyth.<\/strong> The teams left Cardiff and made their way through the Welsh countryside, calling at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>FSEW International Freight Forwarders, Cardiff<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E.ON Drive Infrastructure, Cross Hands<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elan Valley Visitor Centre<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quartix UK, Newtown (Powys)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grosvenor, Aberystwyth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Day 2 \u2013 heading north.<\/strong> The second day took the teams through North Wales, with checkpoints at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transport for Wales and partners, Porthmadog<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ENGIE UK, Marchlyn Mawr<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Denbighshire County Council, Rhyl<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Costelloes EV, Wrexham<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, Deeside<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From rural roads and mountain terrain to charging hubs in some of the most remote parts of the country, the route put the questions fleets still ask about EVs to the test. Are EVs only suitable for short journeys? Is charging infrastructure a barrier to longer trips? Can electric vehicles meet the demands of a modern fleet?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-the-results\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The results<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-efficiency-leaderboard\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Efficiency leaderboard<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Efficiency is measured in miles per kilowatt-hour (mi\/kWh), so a higher number is better. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.toyota.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Toyota<\/a><\/strong> led from start to finish, improving from 5.50 mi\/kWh on Day 1 to 7.65 mi\/kWh on Day 2. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerovatech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zerova<\/a><\/strong> held second place on both days (3.87 then 5.26 mi\/kWh), with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/costelloes.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Costelloes EV<\/a><\/strong> in third (3.60 then 3.45 mi\/kWh).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further down the table, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.grosvenor-contracts.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grosvenor<\/a><\/strong> climbed from sixth to fourth, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tfw.wales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transport for Wales<\/a><\/strong> moved up from seventh to sixth, improving its figure from 2.09 to 2.91 mi\/kWh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"867\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-efficiency-leaderboard-867x1000.png\" alt=\"EV Rally Cymru 2026 leaderboard showing efficiency standings for eleven teams, ranked by miles per kilowatt-hour over two days.\" class=\"wp-image-138889\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-efficiency-leaderboard-867x1000.png 867w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-efficiency-leaderboard-260x300.png 260w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-efficiency-leaderboard-768x886.png 768w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-efficiency-leaderboard-1332x1536.png 1332w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-efficiency-leaderboard-1776x2048.png 1776w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-efficiency-leaderboard-936x1080.png 936w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-efficiency-leaderboard.png 1852w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 867px) 100vw, 867px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-safety-leaderboard\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Safety leaderboard<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Safety scores are out of 100, and a higher score means smoother, safer driving. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ournet.energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Our Net Energy<\/a><\/strong> took first place on both days with 97.4, just ahead of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fsew.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FESW<\/a><\/strong> on 97.3. The race for third was tighter. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerovatech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zerova<\/a><\/strong> held it after Day 1 (95.4), but <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/costelloes.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Costelloes<\/a><\/strong> edged ahead on Day 2 (95.1 to Zerova\u2019s 94.9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"886\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-safety-leaderboard-886x1000.png\" alt=\"Final safety leaderboard standings for the EV Rally Cymru 2026, showing team scores after the completion of day one and day two.\" class=\"wp-image-138900\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-safety-leaderboard-886x1000.png 886w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-safety-leaderboard-266x300.png 266w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-safety-leaderboard-768x867.png 768w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-safety-leaderboard-1361x1536.png 1361w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-safety-leaderboard-1814x2048.png 1814w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-safety-leaderboard-957x1080.png 957w, https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/ev-rally-cymru-2026-safety-leaderboard.png 1892w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 886px) 100vw, 886px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-who-did-best-on-both\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who did best on both?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Efficiency and safety don\u2019t always go hand in hand, and the leaderboards show it. On Day 1, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerovatech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zerova<\/a><\/strong> was the only team on both podiums, second for efficiency and third for safety. By Day 2 it was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/costelloes.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Costelloes<\/a><\/strong>, in third place on both boards. It\u2019s a good reminder that efficient driving and safe driving are different skills, and to pay attention to both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-how-it-was-measured\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How it was measured<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rankings combine two separate measures:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Safety<\/strong> comes from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/en-gb\/vehicle-tracking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Quartix vehicle tracking system<\/a> fitted in each rally vehicle. It\u2019s based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/en-gb\/vehicle-tracking\/driver-behaviour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">driving style<\/a> across the whole route, so smoother, safer driving scores higher.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Efficiency<\/strong> is calculated from the mi\/kWh figures each team submitted from their own vehicle dashboard, per team and per day. Teams are then ranked from highest to lowest. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unlike <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/en-gb\/blog\/ev-rally-results-efficiency-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">September\u2019s Rally<\/a>, where efficiency was expressed as a percentage of each vehicles maximum efficiency figure calculated using information provided by the manufacturer, the Cymru leaderboards use raw mi\/kWh. Vehicles of different sizes and types are therefore not like-for-like, and the standings are best read as a snapshot of real-world performance rather than a direct vehicle comparison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-welcoming-the-rally-to-quartix-hq\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Welcoming the Rally to Quartix HQ<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Day 1 of EV Rally Cymru \u201826 brought the Rally to Newtown, as Quartix UK hosted Checkpoint 4. It was the first time Quartix has hosted a checkpoint in the EV Rally, and we were delighted to welcome the teams to our home base in Powys after the drive through Cross Hands and the Elan Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside our own team, our partners <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/en-gb\/autoglass-discount\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Autoglass\u00ae<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quartix.com\/en-gb\/right-fuel-card-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Right Fuel Card (Edenred)<\/a> were on site to meet the drivers and talk fleet. With a long day on the road still ahead, we made sure nobody left hungry. A hog roast, soft drinks, tea and coffee were on offer, because refuelling matters for drivers as much as for vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stop was also a chance to show the teams what happens behind the scenes. Drivers got a look around our Newtown base and a closer look at the tracking technology that follows every rally vehicle in real time. It\u2019s the same technology that helps fleet managers and business owners gain better visibility of their vehicles, streamline operations and reduce costs. With the live tracking and the data behind the leaderboards on show, the teams could see how the day\u2019s journey was turning into measurable results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just as valuable was the networking.
