No – Quartix tracking devices draw power from the vehicle, so you don’t need to manually charge them. The hardwired and Connect & Track units connect to the vehicle’s electrical system (battery), and the Plug & Track draws power from the OBD port. They are designed to have a minimal power draw (comparable to a car’s clock or alarm system), so they won’t drain your battery. Each device also has an internal backup battery to ensure it can send alerts/data even if the vehicle’s battery is disconnected or if someone unplugs the device. In terms of maintenance, the trackers are solid-state electronics with no routine upkeep – once installed, they run in the background. Quartix monitors the device health remotely and can perform over-the-air firmware updates when needed , so you don’t have to worry about servicing the unit.
The Quartix tracker contains a SIM card and uses the mobile data network (GSM/cellular) to send information to the Quartix cloud platform. Whenever the vehicle is on the move, the device logs GPS positions and periodically uploads those in real time. In areas with good mobile coverage, you’ll see live updates; if the vehicle travels through a poor signal area, the tracker will store the data and upload it as soon as coverage returns, so no journey data is lost. This means the system works across the UK (and internationally, where Quartix operates) anywhere a mobile signal is available. There is no need for the driver to intervene or for a separate phone – the device handles communication automatically and securely.
Yes. Quartix GPS trackers can be used in cars, vans, trucks, and even specialised vehicles or machinery. The hardwired tracker is compatible with all vehicle types – from small cars to HGVs – and is often the best choice for trucks or plant equipment. The self-install Plug & Track and Connect & Track devices are ideal for standard cars and vans; they are also compatible with many trucks and larger vehicles, and Quartix can provide OBD adaptor cables (such as 6-pin or 9-pin adaptors for heavy-duty vehicles) at no extra cost to ensure a proper fit. In short, regardless of your fleet – small delivery vans, large lorries, or mixed vehicle types – Quartix has a device solution that will work.
Quartix devices will detect it. If a tracker is unplugged or loses power unexpectedly, the system flags a tamper alert. For example, the Plug & Track device can sense if it’s removed from the port and will trigger an alert in the Quartix application (and via email) to inform you . Similarly, the hardwired unit has tamper detection as it’s soldered into place – any interruption would be noticed. This ensures that if someone tries to interfere with a tracker, you as the fleet manager will know about it. The device’s internal battery also allows it to continue sending a signal for a short time after being disconnected, which aids in tamper notifications or in recovery of stolen units.
