Following September’s Mythbusters EV Rally, the Rally came to Wales. On 21 and 22 October, GREENFLEET’s EV Rally Cymru ‘26 took electric vehicles and charging infrastructure on a two-day journey across the country in partnership with Transport for Wales. As Official Technology Partner, Quartix tracked every vehicle along the way.
This was the third running of the Welsh Rally, which launched in 2024. This year it also came to us, with Quartix HQ in Newtown as an official Day 1 checkpoint. Here’s how the two days played out.
Day 1 – Cardiff to Aberystwyth. The teams left Cardiff and made their way through the Welsh countryside, calling at:
Day 2 – heading north. The second day took the teams through North Wales, with checkpoints at:
From rural roads and mountain terrain to charging hubs in some of the most remote parts of the country, the route put the questions fleets still ask about EVs to the test. Are EVs only suitable for short journeys? Is charging infrastructure a barrier to longer trips? Can electric vehicles meet the demands of a modern fleet?
Efficiency is measured in miles per kilowatt-hour (mi/kWh), so a higher number is better. Toyota led from start to finish, improving from 5.50 mi/kWh on Day 1 to 7.65 mi/kWh on Day 2. Zerova held second place on both days (3.87 then 5.26 mi/kWh), with Costelloes EV in third (3.60 then 3.45 mi/kWh).
Further down the table, Grosvenor climbed from sixth to fourth, and Transport for Wales moved up from seventh to sixth, improving its figure from 2.09 to 2.91 mi/kWh.

Safety scores are out of 100, and a higher score means smoother, safer driving. Our Net Energy took first place on both days with 97.4, just ahead of FESW on 97.3. The race for third was tighter. Zerova held it after Day 1 (95.4), but Costelloes edged ahead on Day 2 (95.1 to Zerova’s 94.9).

Efficiency and safety don’t always go hand in hand, and the leaderboards show it. On Day 1, Zerova was the only team on both podiums, second for efficiency and third for safety. By Day 2 it was Costelloes, in third place on both boards. It’s a good reminder that efficient driving and safe driving are different skills, and to pay attention to both.
The rankings combine two separate measures:
Unlike September’s Rally, where efficiency was expressed as a percentage of each vehicles maximum efficiency figure calculated using information provided by the manufacturer, the Cymru leaderboards use raw mi/kWh. Vehicles of different sizes and types are therefore not like-for-like, and the standings are best read as a snapshot of real-world performance rather than a direct vehicle comparison.
Day 1 of EV Rally Cymru ‘26 brought the Rally to Newtown, as Quartix UK hosted Checkpoint 4. It was the first time Quartix has hosted a checkpoint in the EV Rally, and we were delighted to welcome the teams to our home base in Powys after the drive through Cross Hands and the Elan Valley.
Alongside our own team, our partners Autoglass® and Right Fuel Card (Edenred) were on site to meet the drivers and talk fleet. With a long day on the road still ahead, we made sure nobody left hungry. A hog roast, soft drinks, tea and coffee were on offer, because refuelling matters for drivers as much as for vehicles.
The stop was also a chance to show the teams what happens behind the scenes. Drivers got a look around our Newtown base and a closer look at the tracking technology that follows every rally vehicle in real time. It’s the same technology that helps fleet managers and business owners gain better visibility of their vehicles, streamline operations and reduce costs. With the live tracking and the data behind the leaderboards on show, the teams could see how the day’s journey was turning into measurable results.
Just as valuable was the networking. Fleet operators, EV suppliers, charging specialists and technology providers don’t often share a car park and a hog roast, and the conversations over lunch were a big part of the day.
A big thank you to our colleagues who made the stop possible, to Autoglass and Right Fuel Card (Edenred) for joining us, and to every team that stopped by. Thanks also to GREENFLEET and Transport for Wales for bringing the Rally together, to all the checkpoint hosts, and to everyone who took part. The Rally showed what electric vehicles can do on real Welsh roads, from the Elan Valley to the North Wales coast. The next step is working out what they could do for your own fleet. Here’s where to start:
